Quick update while we're using the banos (bathrooms) at a hotel. We finally made it to our hotel in Antigua at about 10pm last night. Today, we are being tourists and have been at Lake Atilan shopping, eating delicious food and buying 170 pounds of coffee! Longer update to come but here are some pictures!
It is later at the hotel so I can give a more complete update on our day. Gretchen, I have included a picture of your father and brother-they are here-is your dad dressed ok? :)
We had breakfast at our hotel in Antigua this morning before loading our chicken bus (Byron and Damion-we think a chicken bus should be your next vehicle) to head towards Xela (Quetzaltenango). On the way we detoured to Panajachel, one of the 12 villages on Lake Atilan. Moises had planned for us to take a boat from Pana to San Juan and it was amazing! We had lunch with a wonderful family in San Juan (read more about them in a separate post from today), went to the coffee co-op, and boy did we have some good coffee, visited a women's weaving co-op and of course spent more time then the men wanted, took the boat back and loaded the bus once again. Even after all the trouble we had getting to Guatemala, we've run into some transportation delays here as well. We got stopped for 45 minutes or so in traffic. After sitting a while we heard that a car was driving on the wrong side of the road and refused to mo e! After much laughter about how silly that was we found out the real story was a bus got stuck because it was too big--which I am sure happens a lot on these small roads. So, we got to Xela much later than planned and then got further delayed by another accident! But, we arrived cheerfully and safely to our BEAUTIFUL hotel and were quickly served a wonderful meal.
During our devotions tonight we shared what we had seen, tasted, heard and touched today. I was amazed by how varied (and sometimes incredibly similar) the responses were. God is truly working in each of our lives to bring out His will on this trip.
Are my dad and brother even there!?!?! It's good to hear you made it there safely!
